Three on the Side-Where the Past Meets the Groove!
BOB GOSSETT
is the creative singer/songwriting engine of the group! He is a retired elementary school teacher who has been writing songs since he was 14. Bob joined together with Fred and Karl to create two albums of original music, the latest being the popular “Bob Gossett’s Kid Songs” but since expanding Three On The Side to include Dan and Theresa, he has enjoyed rescuing almost forgotten oldies from the 50’s and 60’s. Bob has penned well over 500 songs, including many “one time” originals or parodies for birthdays and other special events. Bob lives in Sonoma and still enjoys leading school sing-a-longs and talent shows.
FRED GARDNER
is vocal harmony central of the group. His knowledge of vocal harmony assists the group in achieving some rather engaging harmonies. Most of the time Fred is playing keys/synth although he is capable on guitar, harmonica, and bass, cajon, cuica, egg-shaker and, of course, more cowbell! We were searching for an instrumental for the song Vegetable Man on the kid's album and Fred's brainstorm was to crunch celery... and, high-five, it worked. Add celery to his collection of instruments!
KARL SCHEFF
learned the recording process during our first album. Much of the training was by trial and error, starts and restarts, and high-fives when it worked. Many of the lessons learned during the first recording were applied to the Kid's album a couple of years later. When not behind the recording console, Karl is learning new guitar licks. To get just the right tone, Karl will switch from acoustic to electric during Three on the Side's concerts. We often rely on Karl's left-brain analytical skills to keep us focused. He is a very serious, but lovable straight man!
DAN SAWYER
is the newest member of the group, bringing the bottom notes in. Dan's favorite quote, "I play bass!" is indicative of his tendency to be short on words and tall on talent! Besides the bass he also plays guitar and ukulele. A lifelong love of music has taught him a variety of musical styles. His guitar won him his lifelong partner. Dan is a retired Respiratory Therapist and has been seen around the Sacramento area at various venues.
